The Minisink Valley Warriors rebounded from last weeks loss to defeat Roosevelt 28-7 in an important Section 9 AA
Division II contest.
The Warriors left little doubt early who would be in charge as they took the opening kickoff and marched the length of the field with Joe Myhren culminating the drive with a one yard touchdown run. he score was Myhren's sixth on the ground this season and ninth overall.
Roosevelt took the ensuing kickoff and on their first play from scrimmage Minisink's stud middle linebacker Nick Scarpulla laid a vicious hit on the President's ballcarrier jarring the ball loose which was recovered by teammate Matt Hannon. Scarpulla lead the entire state in tackles last season with 155 stops and is having another solid season as the leader of the Warrior defense. Scarpulla was voted Max Prep's number one defensive player of the year for his efforts.
After the turnover HR Rotolo put the rock into the end zone from 8 yards out for his first score of the season. Rotolo finished the game with 38 yards rushing on 6 carries. He also had an interception on defense.
The Warriors added to their lead in the second quarter when Minisink quarterback Nick Iannuzzi found fullback Josh Tice with a perfect touch pass for a ten yard scoring strike. Iannuzzi finished the game 4-9 passing for 85 yards while rushing for 35 yards on 8 carries.
The Warriors carried a 21-0 lead into the half.
On the opening drive of the second half the Warrior defense rose to the occasion stopping the President's drive.
After a Roosevelt fumble snap on the punt attempt  Scarpulla recovered the ball on about the one yard line and bulled his way into the end zone for the fourth and final Warrior score.
"Our defense really had a great game," said Warrior head coach Kevin Gallagher, "we had a great week of practice and we really came out and did what we had to do. Nick Scarpulla, Nick Emanuele and Tommy Catabay all had great games defensively with three sacks each. I am really proud of these guys. They did an absolutely great job for us."
Warrior defensive lineman Jerred Littles also had a sack for Minisink as the powerful Warrior 'D' finished with ten sacks on the afternoon. The defense limited Roosevelt to 125 yards in total offense.
The Warriors, now 2-1 and 5-1, travel to Port Jervis this coming Friday for a non-conference contest against the Red Raiders.
