The Minisink Valley Warriors improved to 4-0 over on the season with a 28-14 victory over Pine Bush Thursday night.
The rugged Warrior defense didn't get much of a chance to showcase their abundant talents early on as the offense chose tonight to flex some muscle. Minisink demonstrated some top-notch ball control in the first quarter as Pine bush had the opportunity to run just two offensive plays in the opening 12 minutes of play.
Minisink drove the length of the field with the opening kickoff and took the early lead when Joe Myhren scored on a three yard run.
On the subsequent Pine Bush possession, Matt Hannon picked off a pass right smack in front of the Warrior bench on the second play of the drive. Hannon finished the game with a pair of interceptions, he now has three on the season. HR Rotolo and Nick Emanuele also had interceptions for the 'Mean Green' defense.
The Warrior offense then drove out the remainder of the quarter and Josh Tice scored the first of his two TD's on a ten yard run. Tice finished the game with 129 yards on the ground on just 14 carries, that's an average of 9.2 yards per carry folks, while Myhren toted the rock for 106 yards on 19 totes.
Myhren also scored a pair of TD's giving him 8 for the season.
The Warrior defense, led by senior middle linebacker Nick Scarpulla, who finished with a team high 9 tackles, finally got a chance to take the field for more than a few plays at least. the Bushmen put together a successful drive however as Will Loeb took the ball in with just under five minutes remaining in the half making the score 14-6 at the half.
The Warriors scored first in the second half as well as Myhren scored his second touch of the game on a two yard run with 2:14 left on the clock.
The two teams battled it out in the final quarter without any scoring until Loeb scored his second TD of the game on a 40 yard gallop making the score 21-14 with over three minutes left in the game.
Any hopes of a Pine Bush rally were quickly put to rest on the next Warrior series. Josh Tice doused that flame when he raced 42 yards for the final score of the game thus ending the Pine Bush hopes of a come from behind victory.
Overall the Warriors played well on both sides of the ball. The defense picked off four Pine Bush passes while limiting Pine Bush to just five first downs. The offense played some great ball control and had nine first downs in the first half alone.
The Warriors now look to tangle with Warwick this Friday in a huge Section 9-AA Division II contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30. Come on out and support your warriors in what promises to be a great game. The Wildcats are always tough and this should be a fantastic game.
