The Minisink Valley Warriors turned in their
second straight strong performance with a dominating 24-0 victory over the Red
Raiders of Port Jervis.
the teams traded stalled drives in the first quarter. Minisink did make it
interesting late in the quarter with a long drive that stalled when the Red
raider defense held tough and stopped the warriors on downs in the eleven yard
line.
On their first drive of the second quarter the warriors found themselves in
excellent field position at the Red Raider 46 yard line following a Port Jervis
punt and 15 yard return.
Warrior QB Nick Iannuzzi took the controls right off finding fullback Josh Tice
for an eleven yard gain and the first of three first downs in the drive.
Iannuzzi connected with halfback Joe Myhren for a ten yard touchdown toss to cap
the drive. The touchdown was Myhren's first of two scores in the game.
On the following kickoff Red Raider Conor Schall mishandled the ball but
recovered pinning Port deep in their own territory at the 13.
The Warrior defense, one of the strongest in the section, rallied to the
occasion forcing a fumble on the second Port play of the drive with linebacker
supreme Nick Scarpulla coming up with the recovery.
Minisink Valley put together a six play drive culminated by Myhren's second
score on a three yard run.
The first half ended with the Warriors on top 12-0.
