Late in the second quarter Minisink Valley
junior quarterback
Nick Iannuzzi found Joe Myhren in the flat with a short toss and Myhren
converted it into a 45 yard completion. One play later Josh Tice put the rock in
the end-zone to give Minisink Valley's Warriors a huge score and put them right
back in the game.
This contest is huge and both teams entered knowing full well what was at stake
in the Section 9 Division II standings.
Warwick came out on fire led by running back Matt Stranski. After a scoreless
first quarter, Stranski took to the ground full steam gaining 154 yards and
scoring a pair of touchdowns. The first score by the Warwick senior was on a six
yard burst while the second score went for 48 yards.
Minisink's defense, one of the best around, then came alive and forced Warwick
fumbles on the next two Wildcat possessions.
On their final drive of the half Minisink took the ball on their own 34 yard
line. After a gain of one yard on an Iannuzzi run, Tice came around left end,
stiff armed a Warwick defender and bulled his way for a first down.
Iannuzzi and Myhren hooked up on their big play on the next down before Tice
scored his third TD of the season.
The second half began with Warwick getting the kickoff and marching the field
with Wildcat QB Chris Meinhart hitting wideout Reyes with a 25 yard scoring
strike. The score gave Warwick a 19-7 lead.
Minisink had the ball two more possessions in the quarter but penalties and a
solid Warwick defense kept the Warriors from gaining much ground.
Warwick took the ball on their own 44 yard line at the start of the fourth
quarter and put together a nine play drive capped by a 48 yard touchdown jaunt
by Stranski. Stranski finished the game with 219 yards rushing on 29 carries and
three touchdowns.
Minisink Valley quarterback Nick Iannuzzi finished the game 10-21 passing for a
season high 179 yards. Joe Myhren caught 3 passes for 67 yards while fullback
Josh Tice caught 3 passes for 29 yards and rushed for 22 yards on 8 carries.
The loss drops Minisink to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Warwick
improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
Minisink Valley will travel to Roosevelt next Saturday for an afternoon contest.
The Warriors need a victory to stay in the hunt for a playoff slot in the
Section 9 Division II standings. |
