The Minisink Valley Warriors, ranked #10 in the latest NYSSWA
poll,
defeated Port Jervis last night 28-0 in a non -league contest.
The two teams have long been divisional rivals but sectional
realignment has forced the two powerhouse programs into
different divisions within the section. The tradition, however,
continues and in strong fashion.
The Warriors, (6-0) displayed a high-powered offense and, as
always, a tremendously tough defense.
HR Rotolo got the Warriors going with a 3 yard run on the first
MV possession. Rotolo finished the game with 78 yards rushing on
11 carries.
The Warriors went on a scoring barrage in the first quarter
putting 21 poiints on the board. Jesse Vavricka scored the
second Warrior TD when he hauled in a 17 yard scoring strike
from Warrior QB Nick Iannuzi.
Vavricka finished the game with just the one catch but he ran
the ball 3 times for 38 yards.
Vavricka scored the third Warrior TD of the quarter when he took
the ball in from eight yards out. This was 'Outlaw' Jesse's
fourth TD of the season.
The final Warrior Touch came in the second quarter when Iannuzzi
scored on a 41 yard keeper. Iannuzzi finished the game with 74
yards on the ground on six carries. The Warrior senior also
completed 4-12 passes for 83 yards.
Iannuzzi was named 'Wendy's Offensive Player of the Game' for
his efforts.
Warrior RB James Ferrier has his third 100+ yard rushing game
and second straight as he ended the game with 113 yards on 13
carries. Ferrier also caught one pass for 21 yards.
Russell Aldave hit all four XP's for the remaining Warrior
points.
Dominick Zingaro scored the lone Red Raider score with a one
yard run in the third quarter.
The Warrior defense turned in another tremendously strong effort
limiting Port Jervis to just 105 yards of total offense.
The Warrior 'D' has been playing extremely well this season
limiting three of the last four opponents to just over 100 yards
total offense.
Warrior DE Matt Mecking turned in a great game on defense
finished with two sacks and seven tackles. Mecking's performance
earned him the 'Wendy's Defensive Player of the Game'.
The Outlaw's Jesse-James (Brain & Vavricka) also had solid games
with eight tackles apiece. Brain also had a sack giving him
seven for the season.
Senior Adam Ismaeil had another big game also finishing with
eight tackles and Chris Callaghan added three solo stops and
five assists.
The Warriors travel to Warwick to tangle with the Wildcats this
Friday in a huge Section IX Class AA Division II contest.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. Hope to see you there. The
Warriors can clinch the division with a victory.
