Minisink Valley captured the 2007 Section IX Class AA
Division II football crown with a 17-7 victory over rival
Warwick at Warwick last night.
The Mighty Warriors were up for this one following last season
crushing defeat at the hands of the Wildcats.
The Warriors rushed for 199 yards and passed for 111 more
through the air on their way to the big win.
Senior HR Rotolo, 17-119 yds, scored the first Warrior touch
when he
scored on a ten yard run on the first MV possession of the game.
The Warriors wouldn't put the rock over the goal line again
until late in the third quarter when James Ferrier would haul it
in on a six yard toss from Warrior QB Nick Iannuzzi.
Russell Aldave, 2-2 on PAT's for the game, would hit a 30 yard
field goal in the second quarter.
The Warriors, now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in divisional play, were
plagued by penalties throughout the game but maintained control
and fought hard for the huge victory.
The Warriors clinch the top spot in the Section IX Class AA
playoffs that begin in two weeks. The remaining slot will go to
the winner of the game next week between Warwick and Valley
Central.
Minisink Valley can clinch an undefeated regular season next
Friday when they host Middletown in their annual 'Homecoming
Game' at John Bell Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
